New shop - of our own!

Well....after a year making our mark on Micklegate, we have quickly outgrown the space there, so we've moved to our very own little shop on 2 Little Shambles in the heart of old(e) York. 

It's really easy to find, just behind where our market stall used to be. 

Opening in early September, we're really looking forward to welcoming customers new and old - and having the space and freedom to introduce some new breads and savouries.

Thanks to all our loyal customers for bearing with us while we get up and running.

Holidays are over - we're ready to bake! Also we have a new stall on Jubbergate (near Pret) at Newgate Market every Tuesday. Sadly no more Pocklington market, but with the new bakery imminent, we're having to concentrate our efforts a bit closer to home.

Bluebird Bakery – experienced full time baker wanted.

Due to expansion into new premises in central York, we are looking for a talented baker to join Bluebird Bakery.

An understanding and passion for long fermented breads (particularly sourdough), hand-moulding, ovens and bench-work is essential.  You will be involved in all aspects of bread making including the development of new products. The ideal candidate will be able to slot quickly into the current small team and be willing to adapt and evolve with the changes involved in a small, rapidly growing business. 

The position includes night shifts over four days a week [40 hours], working alone or, on occasion, as part of a small team. On-going training is provided and a profit-based bonus scheme will be available. Salary is negotiable dependent on experience and skill level.

Bluebird Bakery was born from a desire to re-establish the connection between what we eat and where our food comes from. By using local organic flour, wild and organic yeast and employing traditional long-fermentation methods, we create hand-crafted loaves which need no flour improvers, saturated fats or other additives. This is an exciting time for Bluebird Bakery, with new premises allowing increased capacity and growth for an already thriving business. Aside from a shop on the premises, we also attend local markets and have some great wholesale customers.

New outlets...

We've got some new outlets - thought it would be a good idea to get them all down here so you can find out the where's and when's:

Alligator - Fishergate - Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Cakes D'Licious - Clifton Green - Saturdays.
Good Food Shop - Bishy Road - Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Golden Ball Pub - Bishophill - Saturdays from midday.

Star Inn the City, Sotano, Coffee Culture and York Cocoa House are also now using Bluebird bread!

It's been a long time coming...

...hello bread-lovers, 

We've celebrated an eventful year for Bluebird and we've come far from our (still humble) beginnings. Our regular market slots are now as follows:

  • Tuesdays: Pocklington
  • Thursdays: Newgate in York
  • Saturdays: Malton (2nd Sat of month), Merton (3rd Sat of month) and York (1st/4th Sat of the month - behind M&S)

I also still deliver to Alligator, The Good Food Shop, Cakes D'licious in Clifton and the Golden Ball Pub (Saturdays from midday).

We've also got a new assistant, Michael, who is doing a great job manning the markets on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays whilst learning all about real bread and how to make it.
